American Airlines responds to unions’ comments with studied non-concern

In response to the unions' letter urging the AMR board to consider a merger with US Airways, American Airlines spokesman Bruce Hicks offered this statement:

"Nothing changes as a result of these latest statements from our unions. We will proceed on our path toward a successful restructuring of American, including continuing through the Court-supervised 1113 process. It should be easy for anyone to understand the agendas of other interested parties and their sense of urgency to advance them, and their actions continue to demonstrate that. We don't need to address them again.

"However, we reiterate what Mr. Horton recently told the people of American: everyone should understand that what's best for our company, our people and our financial stakeholders will be determined by the facts in a disciplined manner and process. And this includes whether American will choose to pursue any combination down the road. This is the charge of the board of directors and the leadership team to be done in close collaboration with the creditors committee."
