Samsung to focus on OLED TV business
When the Korean manufacturere Samsung indicates a shift of emphasis from its core LCD TV business towards OLED, the audio visual world sits up and takes notice.
Having enticed interested parties with the promise of OLED TV for some time; it looks like Samsung are putting their full weight behind a technology which promises revolutionary levels of picture clarity and sharpness.
In fact, Samsung are reportedly so commited to OLED TV that they are spinning off their current LCD TV business. It is almost certain that 'Samsung Display' will launch in April this year.
Significantly, OLED TV will not form part of the new 'Samsung Display' unit, underlining the Korean giant's ambitions for this emerging new technology.
The demonstration of a 55in pre-production OLED TV at this year's CES (Consumer Electronic Show) in Las Vegas was a precursor to a much broader range of OLED TVs; and importantly, across a broad range of sizes.
While details of exactly what Samsung has planned for its OLED TV business remain a little vague; all of the signs point towards affordable screens using the technology will be available to consumers sometime in 2012.
